Mother’s Square

Reconstruction of public space: Mother’s Square, Obukhiv
The project to reconstruct Mother’s Square in the city of Obukhiv, Kyiv region, is an example of comprehensive improvement of public space, combining aesthetics, comfort, and symbolism. The main goal is to create a modern, inclusive, and attractive place for recreation for residents and guests of the city.
Architectural idea
The key element of the composition is the accent sculpture of the Mother, placed on a square with a water surface, which acts as a spatial center and forms the main axis. The design of the square is based on a combination of landscape and urban approaches: hard paving, water bodies, greenery and small architectural forms are harmoniously combined here.
Lighting design plays an important role in the visual perception of the space in the evening – integrated lighting of trees, lanterns, and sculptural elements creates a cozy atmosphere.

Functional structure
The project involves zoning the area into several functional parts:
- Central pedestrian area with fountains and benches around the sculptural composition;
- Green alleys with planted trees, bushes and ornamental plants
- Recreation areas with benches and shady canopies;
- Cafe-area with a summer terrace;
- Children’s playground and outdoor exercise equipment;
- Stage space – the area is suitable for holding events, holidays and gatherings.
The landscaping uses modern materials — concrete and granite paving, stainless steel metal elements, container landscaping, wooden benches. Ramps and other solutions for barrier-free access are also provided.
Integration into the urban environment
The area is organically integrated into the existing development. According to the master plan, a logical connection with the adjacent neighborhoods, pedestrian paths and thoroughfares is provided. The space is open, transparent and attractive for different age and social groups.
The reconstruction of Mother Square is an example of how, with respect for traditional symbolism, a modern public space of European level can be created.
